Welcome to the Life and Worship of
Timothy Eaton Memorial Church

As senior minister, I would like to add my personal greetings and that of our staff with the hope you find your visit informative, interesting and inviting. If you have any comments and suggestions, or would like us to get in touch with you, we will certainly be pleased to hear from you.

Sincerely yours,

Andrew Stirling

We are living in a growing and ever-expanding city whose pace becomes more frenetic by the minute. Daily we are bombarded with demands upon our time and energy and it seems that we have little time to renew our souls and rest our bodies. That is why we at Timothy Eaton Memorial Church feel that taking an hour a week to worship is so important. You may be asking, however, "Isn’t it better for me to wrap myself in a warm blanket and get some hard-earned rest? Wouldn’t that accomplish the same thing?" We believe that worship gives us even more than rest – it gives us a source of hope, inspiration, comfort and love for every day of the week.

If you are here because you:

    Our Ministry

God calls us to be a congregation of Christ’s church in the world. As such, we will respond to God’s presence as Jesus did, seek human fellowship as he did, help people in need as he did, work to alleviate injustice as he did, and strive for the coming of God’s kingdom on earth, as he did.

As a newcomer to this community of faith, you may have questions, such as:

    When are the worship services?

Sundays at 9:15 and 11:00 a.m. (11:00 a.m. only from Victoria Day to Labour Day). The 11:00 a.m. service is broadcast over CHIN Radio 1540 AM or online. Special services are held on holy days along with contemporary services at 9:15 a.m. A summer preachers’ series takes place in July and August. Weddings and funerals are held as requested.

How can I be involved in the music program?

School-age children are invited to join the Choir School, where they receive innumerable benefits in music education, performance and spiritual growth. The Choir School sings frequently at the 9:15 service, and occasionally at the 11:00 service. The Sanctuary Choir is the main adult choir for the 11:00 a.m. service, and is open to anyone, following a consultation with the Director of Music. The Chamber Choir, which sings at the 9:15 a.m. service, is an intensive choir for those seeking considerable musical and vocal challenge, and is open by audition with the Director of Music.

What about children and young people?

Children’s Church School runs from September to June, at 9:15 and 11:00 a.m. As well, there are programs for teens, including a summer service opportunity program. High school teens participate in a performance-based group called Spirit Express.

    Are there programs for adults?

Adult faith development is encouraged through learning and spirituality opportunities such as Bethel Bible study, United Church Women activities, Men's Groups, Handicapable Ministry, TEMC's Book Club, and the Labyrinth Prayer Path.

What are some of the other programs offered?

Pastoral counseling, Stephen Ministry, Lay visitation, Congregational elder visitation, New member mentoring, Homecoming worship services for those unable to attend worship regularly.

What projects does TEMC support in the community?

TEMC provides many resources to the community (human, financial, and/or material) and funds a wide variety of community service projects.

What goes on during the week?

TEMC is well suited to many weekly and one-time activities such as the Churches-on-the-Hill Food Bank, Alcoholics Anonymous, Fitness classes, Pilates classes, and the Leisure Time Club for seniors. Room rentals are also available for family and corporate functions.

Do you have printed materials to help me learn more?

Yes. The Church News, the Information Guide, Festival of the Word and other sermon series, and other publications are all available for your perusal.
